Sterling Silver Portrait Brooch-Pendant Germany, Early to Mid-20th Century Sterling silver, hand-painted miniature, marcasite Dimensions: 50 mm x 40 mm Weight: 17 grams Marked: “STERLING”, “GERMANY” This dual-purpose brooch and pendant features a finely executed hand-painted portrait miniature of a woman in early 19th-century attire. The portrait is encased within an oval sterling silver frame embellished with marcasite stones, exemplifying the decorative jewelry styles popular in Germany during the interwar period. The object bears both a pin and a bail, indicating it was designed to be worn either as a brooch or suspended as a pendant. One marcasite is missing from the right side of the frame, and the portrait exhibits surface wear in upper left and right side of painting. Despite these condition notes, the piece remains a representative example of continental European portrait jewelry.
