This fine sterling silver snuff box was crafted in Birmingham in 1833 by renowned silversmith Joseph Willmore. The rectangular form is decorated with crisp engine-turned guilloché patterning to all sides, centering a rectangular cartouche engraved with the script monogram “RGP.” The hinged lid opens to reveal a richly gilded interior. Exterior: Crisp guilloché engine-turning with minor handling wear. Monogram: “RGP” clear and well-executed. Interior: Gilding intact with light surface marks. Hinge: Sound and functions smoothly; lid closes flush. No dents, splits, or repairs observed.

Fully hallmarked inside for Birmingham, with the maker’s mark “J.W.” for Joseph Willmore, the anchor assay mark, sterling lion passant, and date letter “k” for 1833. The box measures 72 mm × 50 mm × 19 mm (2.83 × 1.97 × 0.75 in) and weighs 74 g.
Joseph Willmore was one of Birmingham’s most prolific and respected silversmiths of the early 19th century, celebrated for his precise engine-turning and refined small silverware. This example is an excellent representation of his craftsmanship and of the fashionable gentleman’s snuff box of the Georgian period.
